So naturally, the assumption becomes: <em>Let&#8217;s hire.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that is exactly the right answer, but not always. There is an important difference between a team that is busy and a team that is bottlenecked and hiring for the wrong problem often creates more problems later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Busy and Bottlenecked Are Not the Same Thing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A busy team is not automatically an understaffed team. Sometimes a temporary increase in workload creates pressure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A major implementation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Year-end initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A system migration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seasonal demand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A large project rollout<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In those situations, people feel overloaded because there is simply more work happening at once. That does not necessarily mean long-term capability is missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bottlenecks look different. They tend to sound like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Only one person knows how to do this.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Decisions keep getting stuck.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Projects keep falling behind.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;We&#8217;re constantly reacting instead of planning.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That often points to a structural issue rather than a temporary workload issue. The distinction matters because the solution may be very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Questions to Ask Before Opening a Role<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before automatically adding headcount, step back and pressure-test the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is This Workload Temporary?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is this tied to a specific initiative?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will workload normalize in a few months?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are we reacting to a temporary spike?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the answer is yes, permanent hiring may not be the best solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is Capability Missing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the issue is not volume. It is expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your team may have strong infrastructure talent but lack cloud transformation experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or you may have technical capability but no one providing strategic leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In those cases, adding another person with the same profile will not solve the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is Process the Real Problem?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This question often gets overlooked. You may need stronger direction if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teams lack ownership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Priorities constantly shift<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decisions take too long<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical teams feel disconnected from business goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that point, adding another individual contributor may not change outcomes. Warning signs include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The same problems repeating every quarter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teams working hard but seeing little progress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frequent handoff issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constant fire drills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If process is creating friction, another hire may simply absorb the same inefficiencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Solving the Wrong Problem Creates Churn<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hiring always feels productive. There is movement, interviews begin, and momentum builds.
