Developers with spotless performance records. Architects and VPs who delivered, scaled, and led teams through change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet, they\u2019ve found themselves caught in something that\u2019s happening far too often: a layoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s be clear \u2014 being laid off doesn\u2019t mean you failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It means the company did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s a budget shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s M&amp;A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s a board decision from people you\u2019ve never met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s rarely about performance. And it\u2019s almost never a reflection of your value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Stigma Is Real \u2014 But It\u2019s Outdated<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially for senior professionals, layoffs can come with a gut punch of shame. Hiring managers \u2014 especially in tech \u2014 know how volatile the market is. Most won\u2019t bat an eye if you were part of a reduction. But how you tell your story next? Reframe the Narrative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by owning the facts \u2014 without apology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of: <em>\u201cMy position was eliminated, I\u2019m not sure what\u2019s next\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try: <em>\u201cAfter a company-wide restructure, I\u2019m now exploring new leadership roles where I can apply my expertise in X and Y.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just about what happened. It\u2019s about where you\u2019re headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Get Specific About What You Want<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most empowered job searches start with clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 What type of problems do you want to solve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 What kind of team do you thrive in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 What boundaries or values matter most to you this time around?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t let the layoff put you in reaction mode. Put yourself back in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Reconnect With Your Network \u2014 Before You Need Them<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now\u2019s the time to reach out. Not with a resume, but with a real conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHey, I\u2019m navigating a transition and would love your perspective on where you\u2019re seeing opportunities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019d be surprised how many doors open when people <em>know<\/em> you\u2019re open to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Partner With the Right People<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruiters. Former colleagues. Mentors.
